Creating a Material Advantage

How Entegris is Creating a Material Advantage for Its Customers

In this increasingly complex world of advanced high-tech manufacturing, materials science matters. It is the base for innovations that assure the purity or integrity of process-critical materials, and ultimately lead to a more productive and robust manufacturing process and product performance.

For more than 40 years, Entegris has delivered innovative materials-science enabled solutions to the semiconductor, microelectronics, energy, life sciences and other technology markets.

Using its unique combination of materials science expertise and intimate manufacturing process know-how, Entegris is able to solve the most difficult purification, process control, and material protection problems. These solutions are aimed at helping advanced high-tech manufactures improve their productivity, performance, and technology.

At Entegris, we're working hard to create a material advantage for you.

YOUR PRODUCTIVITYYOUR PERFORMANCEYOUR TECHNOLOGY
In advanced semiconductor manufacturing, productivity is measured in both manufacturing yields and throughput. To help semiconductor process technologies continue to evolve, Entegris is applying its material science expertise to make its latest generation of Torrento® filters able to retain particles as small as 20 nanometers (a human hair is approximately 100,000 nanometers), while providing ultrahigh flow rates for liquid chemistries used in wet etch and clean processes. How does Entegris achieve this? Using innovative surface modification technology, Entegris can change the properties of its Teflon membranes to be attractive to liquids.  The result is an advanced filter that is ultraclean and can provide high yields and fast changeouts. This is one more way Entegris is using material science to create an advantage for its customers.Inside a state-of-the-art semiconductor fab, there are typically millions of dollars of in-process wafers being moved or stored at any given time by thousands of front opening unified pods (FOUPs). To reduce potential loss due to fire, one of the world's largest business property insurers recommends the use of FM4911 Approved non-fire propagating Spectra™ FOUPs as a key part of making fabs fire safe. Entegris developed the industry's first FM4911 Approved FOUP, using its own formula of highly engineered ultraclean polymers and its long history as a leading supplier of advanced wafer handling products. Meeting this exacting standard not only provides another layer of protection for critical work-in-process inventory, but can save semiconductor fabs significant property insurance costs. This is another way Entegris is helping to improve the financial performance of its customers. In the world of aerospace, balancing the trade-off between weight and other physical properties can mean the difference in terms of getting astronomical and commercial optical systems off the ground. Entegris' Specialty Materials is a leading provider of specialized graphite and silicon carbide for high-performance applications. Its unique silicon carbide material is replacing Beryllium in a number of critical aerospace applications due to its higher thermal and mechanical performance, lower cost, improved optical quality and safety. Entegris is discovering new ways to apply material science to advance the technology of its customers.
