Radio Opaque Gold Coating

Inserting an implant or device such as a guidewire or catheter requires knowing its exact position and orientation during surgery. Such devices cannot normally be seen using x-rays, and swaged metal bands are often crimped on the ends to make them visible. These bands, however, can be abrasive or may fall off. Additionally, there is the danger of trapped material between the device and band, increasing the propensity for thrombus formation.

Entegris' Radio Opaque Gold coating is thin but extremely dense and provides high contrast and sharp edges when viewed on film or a fluoroscope. Radio Opaque coatings can be applied in any chosen pattern and achieve 100% attenuation of a fluoroscopic spectrum.

General features:

  • Eliminates the need for crimping and swaging bands of metal on devices
  • Excellent mechanical properties
  • Easily bent and highly flexible

Applications:

  • Biomedical devices such as intravenous markers, implants, stents, guide wire and catheters
