Glass in Front; Glass in Back
Graphite material enables latest smartphone glass technology
One of the larger challenges is the extremely precise dimensional specifications required for today’s sophisticated electronics. Mass-produced molding cannot result in size variations any more than the thickness of a sheet of paper.

Engineers are meeting those challenges on two fronts – first, starting with inherently high-quality glass, and second, with next-generation forming technologies developed specifically for this advanced glass formula. These advanced technologies require materials with a high coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) to avoid the need and added expense of post forming machining and polishing.
This is where Entegris' GF graphite materials come into play with their unique microstructures and highest graphite CTE on the market.
The ideal graphite material will have a finer microstructure and closely match the CTE of the glass. It will balance material hardness to allow effective machining while extending mold life. The result will be higher yield, better glass quality with less secondary processing, and less need to replace costly molds.

Choosing Mold Materials for Making Curved Glass Smartphone Screens
Cost of ownership is the most important consideration for glass forming molds. This paper explores the key considerations in optimizing cost of ownership, looking at the cost of the glass itself, the cost of the graphite material used to create the mold, and the cost of machining the graphite mold. It also explains why the CTE of the mold material is critical to glass screen quality and yield, and to mold life.

Product Solutions
GF graphite is the base grade of our glass forming materials with high strength and durability for glass forming applications. GF materials provide higher product yield through improved glass surface finishes and a match to high CTE glass products.
GF-LT graphite offers the same attributes as our GF graphite plus improved wear and erosion resistance. The higher hardness of this material provides superior polishing to a very high-gloss surface finish.
