Minimize equipment downtime, corrosion, and environmental odors with airborne molecular contamination (AMC) control solutions
Data centers are the most critical elements of Industry 4.0 and Web 2.0. Data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI) the internet of things (IoT) all rely on data center uptime. Data centers typically employ MERV-rated particle filters, but most do not yet consider gas-phase contamination. Airborne molecular contamination (AMC), however, can threaten data center’s reliability and it needs to be controlled.
Control, by nature of the word, involves understanding the environment. Variables in the ambient air environment can threaten equipment performance and the safety and comfort of people. Once we have identified the target contaminants, we can control them and the threats to our measure of excellence.
Entegris can help you control equipment corrosion and improve operator safety and comfort by removing and measuring AMC. Let us analyze the AMC threats in your data center and identify the right solution for you.

Identifying Data Center Contaminants
AMC is gas-phase chemicals that can cause equipment and/or component failures, resulting in costly data errors and equipment downtime, and sometimes even equipment failures that endanger operators. Some AMC from cleaning or humidification routines or outside air can also cause unwanted odors.
Protection from dust and large particles is insufficient to protect sensitive equipment. For best protection, chemical gas-phase filtration is required. However, off-the-shelf, low-cost filters may not protect modern equipment.
Common corrosive contaminants in data centers:
- Sulfuric acid (H2SO3, H2SO4, from SO2 and SO3)
- Nitric acid (HNO3, but not HNO2)
- Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and other reactive sulfur
- Chlorine compounds (HCl, ClO)
- Oxidative compounds like ozone (O3)
- Organic AMC such as solvents, cleaning chemicals and body emissions
Aside from gas-phase chemicals, there are also chemically active particles that can have similar impacts and form oily and corrosive films on equipment over time. Those particles are mostly found in the range below 0.3 µm, which is not filtered out by standard MERV-rated particle filters.
Analytical Services
At the heart of the Entegris solution is our ISO 17025 accredited Analytical Services laboratory that can characterize the contaminant profiles in your environment.
Entegris’ product solutions are based on actual contaminant measurements to improve data center air quality.
Unlike industry-standard corrosion strips, our sampling and laboratory service provides contaminant identification or quantification.
Products
Protect your data center environment with a combination of AMC filter media to reduce organic and basic contamination, and MERV-8 rated media to remove particles.
Provides advanced second-layer protection against organic gases, including volatile compounds, for scanner systems and cleanup of small environments.
